Local SEO: A 30-Day Plan for Raleigh Businesses
A practical playbook for ranking in Google Maps and the local pack.
If you run a service business in the Raleigh-Durham area, ranking in the Google local pack — the map and three businesses that show above the regular search results — is worth more than almost any other marketing channel. Here's a 30-day plan that consistently moves the needle for our clients.
Week 1: Lock down your Google Business Profile
Claim your profile if you haven't, then fill in every single field: hours, services, service area, attributes, and at least 10 high-quality photos. Add your business description with natural mentions of 'Raleigh,' 'Durham,' and your primary service.
Most importantly: pick the most specific primary category available. 'Roofing contractor' will out-rank 'Contractor' every time for relevant searches.
Week 2: Reviews, reviews, reviews
Reviews are the second-strongest local ranking factor after proximity. Set up a system to ask every happy customer for a Google review — a follow-up text with a direct link works far better than an email. Aim for 10 new reviews in week two.
Reply to every review, positive or negative. Google reads those replies and the keywords in them factor into your ranking.
Week 3: Local citations and NAP consistency
Your Name, Address, and Phone number (NAP) must be identical across the web — your website, Google, Yelp, Apple Maps, Bing Places, the Better Business Bureau, and industry-specific directories. Inconsistencies confuse Google and tank rankings. Use a tool like BrightLocal or do it manually with a spreadsheet.
Week 4: On-site SEO and local content
Create a dedicated location page for each city you serve — Raleigh, Cary, Durham, Apex, Wake Forest. Each page should have unique content, embedded Google Map, local testimonials, and structured data (LocalBusiness schema).
Then publish one local-intent blog post: 'Best roofing materials for North Carolina weather,' 'What Raleigh permits do I need for a deck?' — whatever your customers actually search.
What to expect
Local SEO is one of the fastest-moving SEO channels. Most of our clients see meaningful local pack movement within 4–6 weeks of starting this plan, and a measurable lift in calls within 60 days. It compounds — the businesses that started two years ago are now nearly impossible to displace.
